CafCu Media, also known as Cafeteria Culture, is a pioneering non-profit organization dedicated to fostering equitable zero waste practices, climate-smart school communities, and a plastic-free biosphere. Through a unique blend of citizen science, civic action, media production, and the arts, CafCu empowers and engages youth from underprivileged communities to lead climate action and zero waste initiatives. The organization’s award-winning documentary, MICROPLASTIC MADNESS, has been screened in 37 countries, inspiring youth-led movements for a more sustainable future. Founded in 2009, CafCu spearheaded the elimination of polystyrene trays from NYC schools and several large US school districts, successfully removing half a billion polystyrene trays annually. CafCu Media’s comprehensive and cross-disciplinary approach includes recycling and composting programs, climate education, student leadership development, and media production.
